1. Lose the what's in it for me mentality. The only time I've ever been unhappy with a job or a relationship is when I focused on things I thought that I deserved and wasn't getting. Those thoughts just upset me.
I learned to lose the "what's in it for me mentality" and focus on what it is I like about what I do and who I do it with.
2. Know I'm here to serve. I'm the general manager and I know that I'm here to serve my people. I know that I'm the father and the husband and I'm here to serve my family. The people in my life are there for me to serve.
3. Stay humble. By doing #1 and #2 above, people tend to think I'm a great guy, so it's important I remember to stay humble.
It's like a 3 legged table, these three secrets. Lose one and it will topple.
Time is a perishable commodity. Once it passes, you can't get it back, so spend it wisely.
45 years in, I came to the realization that I can always make more money. Money follows me like night follows day. I can't make more time. So my focus is to spend my time doing what I want to do, with the people I want to do it with.
p.s. After watching the video, I have made the decision to put gps tracking collars on my three dogs and cat. If you've ever taken time to try and find your lost pet, it will make sense to you too. 8-)
