Blu Ray

I went to the mall today and checked out the Sony store and watched some HD and Blu Ray.

While current optical disc technologies such as DVD, DVD±R, DVD±RW, and DVD-RAM rely on a red laser to read and write data, the new format uses a blue-violet laser instead, hence the name Blu-ray. Despite the different type of lasers used, Blu-ray products can easily be made backwards compatible with CDs and DVDs through the use of a BD/DVD/CD compatible optical pickup unit. The benefit of using a blue-violet laser (405nm) is that it has a shorter wavelength than a red laser (650nm), which makes it possible to focus the laser spot with even greater precision. This allows data to be packed more tightly and stored in less space, so it's possible to fit more data on the disc even though it's the same size as a CD/DVD. This together with the change of numerical aperture to 0.85 is what enables Blu-ray Discs to hold 25GB/50GB.

Invincible the movie

Invincible the movie was awesome.  I was feeling kind of tired and down tonight, but after watching this movie.... I was pumped up and motivated.

No snooze rating all the way.

My recommendation?  Go to the theater and check out this flick.  I enjoyed this one more than GRID IRON GANG.

Mark Wahlberg movies keep getting better and better.  Way to go with this one Mark!

Down but not out with a never give up attitude.  Vince Papale... dude, you're my hero.

The Protector - forget about it

I watched The Protector the other night.  Forget about it.  I walked out after realizing that I had just wasted 45 minutes of my life.

Okay, the fight scenes were kinda fun at first, but later I just decided it was not really a movie... but rather one long giant fight scene.  Yeah, I was the only one out of 5 people total in the auditorium to walk out up to that point, so maybe it's just me.

Since I didn't fall asleep, it gets a no snooze rating.  But since I left early... it gets the LEAVE EARLY rating.

GridIron Gang

GridIron Gang .... I watched this movie today and it was good.  I give it a no snooze rating, because I didn't even come close to falling asleep once. 8-) 

The story was inspirational, filled with action, and gave a positive message.  I even heard a couple home boys say it was the best movie they saw all year.

THE ROCK did a great job acting and really captured the essence of the dude he was portraying.  At the end of the movie are real video clips of the real dude and the real team that the story was inspired by.

The Illusionist

The Illusionist movie gets a no snooze rating.  Okay, I almost fell asleep of boredom in the first 5 minutes when they rolled all the credits at the beginning of the film, but once we got past that part, I really enjoyed this movie.

Note to self: If I ever make a movie, don't let the first 5 minutes bore the audience to death.

This is a love story, magic show, and a movie that makes you go... HUH?  then OHHHHH, NOW I GET IT.

I walked out of the theater thinking... HEY, THIS WAS PRETTY GOOD.  I ENJOYED IT.  The person I saw it with walked out with the same thought process.

Ed Norton did an awesome job as Eisenheim the Illusionist and Jessica Beil who played his childhood girlfriend that he hooks up with later in an odd meeting was looking pretty hot if I must say so.... and I must say so. 8-)

I was baffled, entertained, and intrigued.  It's a good way to spend the evening.

So the bottom line is... I didn't fall asleep, so it gets a NO SNOOZE rating.

Hollywoodland

Hollywoodland the movie :  I did not fall asleep once, so it gets a ZERO SNOOZE rating (a good thing), and in my opinion could have been just as interesting as an A & E SPECIAL.  I believe that learning a bunch of stuff about George Reeves is what kept my interest.

i.e.,
Christopher Reeve and George Reeves are not related.  Notice the difference in spelling?  I never did until this movie.

George Reeves wasn't a mega star or super rich.  In fact, he lived in a house purchased for him by the wife of the General Manager of MGM, yet he never did a project with MGM.

The actors did a great job.  The story was interesting enough to keep me from falling asleep, so that's a good sign.  Was it a great story?  No, not really.

Adrien Brody: I have to say that I wasn't a huge fan of Adrien Brody prior to watching HOLLYWOODLAND.  Am I a huge fan now?  Not really.  I will say that I appreciate Brody's skills in this film.  Brody played the private investigator that looked at it as a murder and not a suicide.

Diane Lane: Her character was pretty hot, and Lane did well in her role as the MGM dude's wife.

Ben Affleck: Make up people did a great job on Ben.  He really could have been an old time movie star.  Affleck did well playing George Reeves.  I don't think it was a hard role to play.... but then again, what do I know about movies.  I'm just a guy that watches 'em.

Beerfest

Beerfest the movie.  I fell asleep once, almost fell asleep a second time during this feature, but decided against it when I woke up and didn't understand why the dude that had just drowned and died before I fell asleep was alive again when I woke up.

Bottom line is, I fell asleep in this beerfest movie.  There were some funny parts, but not enough to keep me awake the whole way through.  Maybe it would be better to view with beer in hand and with a bunch of other friends who also have beer in hand.

I give it a ONE SNORE rating. 8-)
