When is the last time you did a computer backup?

Doing a regular computer backup is something that we all know we should do, but many people don't think about it until it's too late and they've lost all of their important files due to a crash or a virus. (been there, done that)

If you're guilty of not doing a regular computer backup and lost everything on your computer due to a crash, chances are you made a promise to yourself to not let this happen again.  Kind of like drinking too much and promising not to do it again. (been there, done that too)

So let's say you use windows xp home edition and make a resolution to do a computer backup on a regular schedule.  What's up with microsoft not including a computer backup utility with windows xp home edition?

Windows xp home edition does have a system restore utility that is helpful to restore the computer to an earlier point in time, but they should have included a computer backup utility as well.

So how often do you do a computer backup?  Is there a particular utility or service that you would recommend?

COMPUTER SUPPORT

We all need computer support sometime or other. So who's the best at providing computer support? Do you rely on online computer support, or the computer support department at the major store where you purchased your computer, or do you use the local computer store in your area?

When your computer stops working... who are you gonna call on for computer support?

A buddy of mine recently upgraded his old P3 running Windows ME to Windows 2000. Murphy's Law applied and the upgrade didn't go smoothly as planned. He called me up and asked for help, and I must have talked with him for an hour, late at night. Trying to offer computer support over the phone sure takes patience, especially when the other person isn't very tech minded.

I finally suggested that he take his computer to a local shop in my area that offers great computer support. I figured that this was the wisest option, instead of us wasting anymore time, and me talking in circles with him over the phone.

So when it comes to computer support, who do you call? My friends and neighbors always seem to call me. DOH!
